AETA has entered the market of audio codec creation more than 20 years ago and has a strong
reputation for setting industry standards. AETA offered the first professional codec with 4SB ADPCM
coding algorithm and made the first professional ISDN codec with 4SB and TDAC. AETA was also
first in 2001 to integrate mobile voice in professional codecs (GSM module in Scoopy).
As the first manufacturer to believe in SIP for professional audio codecs and to support the IP
compatibility between different manufacturers, AETA presented the Scoopy IP AoIP with SIP at
the IBC 2005.
AETA – alongside Transtel – is the pioneer of broadcasts via Inmarsat (GAN/BGAN). They use special,
asymmetric algorithms, such as TDAC/G.722 and the control functions integrated in SAT systems.
In 2009 AETA introduced SCOOPY+, the first portable codec for broadcasting applications with
HD-Voice (AMR-Wideband). HD-Voice technology is truly revolutionary, making live radio
reports a better, more natural experience, taking any strain out of listening. HD Voice delivers
higher quality voice transmissions by extending the frequency of range of traditional or
narrowbandvoice calls (300 Hz to 3400 Hz) out to wideband audio ranges (50 Hz to 7000 Hz).
In comparison between HD Voice and traditional narrow band, most people can distinctly hear a
difference and the general sentiment is that HD Voice provides more of a feeling of "being in
the same room" with the reporter.
AETA’S SCOOPY+ has delivered that innovation way back in 2009 in order to meet international
HD launches in countries such as France, the UK, Austria and Switzerland. SCOOPY+ was already
successfully tested by Professor Zimmermann and his team in 2009 in Germany. Subsequently
other field trials were carried out in AMR Wideband test areas around the world. The best part of
this technology is its ease-of-use. Should a reporter travel in a service area without AMR wideband,
the technology automatically switches from wideband to narrowband (standard GSM or UMTS)
without any crackling noises.
SCOOPY+ also is the first portable codec for broadcasting applications to support LTE (Long
Term Evolution) in 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz mobile networks. Long Term Evolution allows for
high-speed transmission of data, live or recorded reports. This can be a significant advantage
namely in remote areas but also in cities. LTE provides a significant improvement of the network
capacity and speed whilst the latency is even less as with 3G networks. International LTE field
trials in countries such as Austria and Germany were successful.
